Top 3 – American Idol – My Thoughts (Live)…

May 13, 2008 emjay217 1 comment

Before going into this and after reading the song list, I think that, based on song choices only, it is Syesha’s final night. Unless one of the Davids crap it up, she is gone. :(

Once again, blogging live and all over the place…

David Archuleta – “And So it Goes” by Billy Joel

“I was excited. It’s a really pretty song.” Ha. Come on dude.

Ballsy. He sings most of the first verse accapella folks. Here come the violins. So far this song is a SNOREFEST. I should first say that Billy Joel bores the tears out of me anyway. To be fair, David Archuleta sounds great, but very Archuleta. If that makes any sense.

Judges aren’t surprised that he did well.

Syesha Mercado – “If I Ain’t Got You” By Alicia Keys

Syesha thinks she already knows how she is gonna do it. Lets go!

She looks fantastic. I think she should always have her hair straightened and long. Another boring song so far. She wakes up a little around the chorus. I think my problem with this song is that she has sung it on TV before (The One) and I never really liked the song before when Alicia Keys did.

But, have I mentioned how cute she is? Just wondering.

Overall, the judges like it. Then she just made it totally weird, “be myself, ya know?” (awkward shot of judges).

David Cook – “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack should be an interesting choice. I think he might do it some justice. Although, usually this song bores me to tears.

The beginning seemed a bit rushed, but so far David Cook gets an A+ for this boring ditty. The shots of is mother (i think that is her) is somewhat touching. The song builds nicely to a David Cook-esque ending. I loved the last note, scream.

Wait. Was that not his mom? They showed his Dad. Okay, going back, it was her.

Randy liked it but not the style. Paula says David is her second favorite singer of that song. Simon, of course, said it was his favorite.

David Archuleta – “With You” by Chris Brown

Youthful sounding song as he puts it. This is just going to be weird. Oh man, what a screw up of the lyrics. You could see the look on his face. He was making up words then realized his lines no longer rhymed. Ha. Now I can’t even concentrate because this is my favorite Chris Brown song. Around the chorus he picks it up and sounds like Archuleta again. Lets see if the judges give him crap.

Randy doesn’t think it was the right choice of song. No mention of the botched lyrics. Paula thinks it was perfect. Simon is our only hope. Simon called him a wuss (in not so many words). AND its rigged because the judges did not mention his lyric screw up. COME ON!

Syesha Mercado – “Fever”

Chair dance. If its anything like Britney Spears and her STRONGER video I’ll love it. But our acting-Syesha is back. :) This song is so tough to make your own and I am sure the judges will mention that. I think she sounds good once again and is using the stage. I am trying to not talk about her looks. **zips lips**

For some reason, the end of that song reminded me of Beyonce. I think B might have done that song in a movie before.

I think the judges were told not to compliment her very much. Randy said she sounded good. Paula thought it didn’t showcase “Syesha”. Simon called her lame. I guess I have to vote like crazy again. Ha.

David Cook – “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot

First off, I have a friend who only thinks about making out to this song and so everytime I hear it, I think of her and laugh. :)

So far, I do not like how David Cook has started this song out. I know that it will build at the chorus though. And, of course, as predicted, it did. I still have to go with my thought that this is not his best vocal. In fact, I don’t think I liked it that much.

Randy liked the song choice but not the performance (I agree). Paula thought it was too short (not David’s fault). Simon said it was okay.

David Archuleta – “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg

Talk about old timer song. I think this song is way too old for Archuleta. Is it just me, or is this top three show boring as crap? I still find Archuleta’s vocal abilities amazing. Just think, he’s 17 now and is still growing and learning vocally. How talented will this kid be in 10 years?

That song was forgettable to me. Randy focuses on Archuleta being HOT HOT HOT. Ha. Paula thought it was lovely. Simon thinks the song was sung well, but the choice was horrible. Archuleta will be in the finals.

Syesha Mercado – “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell (from “Happy Feet”)

Oh, I am so scared about this song. Why this song? Huh?

Oh Hotness. Is this Syesha’s Beyonce moment? This song is so awkward. I really don’t know what to say.

Randy thought it was just okay. Paula doesn’t think its “Syesha” again and not good enough for finals. Simon liked it better than FEVER. Not a defining moment

David Cook – “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith

I really don’t like this song to begin with. I think this was Aerosmith’s first #1 song though.

This will be another David Cook formula song. Start out light…build it up…rock the end. Shocking. And… I was right. It was just alright.

Randy thought it was alright. Paula says he is in the finals. Simon says he wins the night.

I think I am bored with this season. How sad.

Who is coming back next season…

I guess I’ll update this when I find out, but I wanted to make a place for the shows I watch and their renewal status for 2008-2009 seasons. AH

Renewed

How I Met Your Mother – probably because of Ms. Britney Spears. Although, I think I am done with her on the show. Two episodes are enough.

Eli Stone – This makes me so happy. Was my favorite new show last season; by a long shot!

New Adventures of Old Christine- Has to win back some fans from the first season next time around.

Ugly Betty – Of course.

Samantha Who? – Um, good, cause I like it.

Pushing Daisies – Surprisingly. Welcomed.

Cold Case – Because it is awesome

Criminal Minds – Naturally.

Ghost Whisperer – Big butt and all

Numb3rs – Sans Megan. Hmmm

Prison Break – HOW? Oh well.

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles – I didn’t like it at first, but by the last episode, I was ready for more. Bring it on.

Supernatural - Least we know that Dean doesn’t die this week.

Celebrity Apprentice – Shockingly better than the past few season of regular Apprentice.

No Word Yet

Moonlight – hasn’t been cancelled, but apparently has not made the CBS fall schedule! AHHH

Gone

Moonlight – AHHH. Why?!

Big Shots – That’s just a shame.

Journeyman – Don’t these people know good television? This will be missed.

Bionic Woman – Peace out lame show.

The 4400 and The Dead Zone – Damn USA, like you have anything better?

New Amsterdam – DAMN! I liked that one.

Women’s Murder Club – Not surprised, but it was starting to get decent and watchable. The strike probably didn’t help.

Miss Guided – It was weird, but by the end it was kinda funny. Too bad.

Jesse McCartney – Departure

Jesse McCartney – Departure ( Release date: 5/20/08 )

So this might be embarassing, but since LEAVIN’ is a bit addicting and BLEEDING LOVE (by Leona Lewis, co-written by Jess) is a hit, I thought maybe I should “review” the advance copy of DEPARTURE by Jesse McCartney. I hate to admit that I can say that I enjoy most of the album, okay, well at least half of it.

My overall thought is that this is a homage to one of his probable idols, Justin Timberlake. Most of the songs range between a “Longing for Love (lost or found)” theme and a “Let’s DO It (because I’m grown up now)” theme.

There are some ridiculous and overly-urban songs on this album for a 21 year old white kid that used to be in a group called DREAMSTREET. :) The song ROCK YOU does not belong, with lyrics like “They call me Jesse baby…” spoken over some hard beats, uh…what? INTO YA sounds like it may be illuding to some kind of sex act, but I won’t discuss because I frankly would rather skip it and pretend it is not on the album.

On to the good points of the album, the first single LEAVIN’ is awesome and catchy. Unfortunately, the video was banned from Disney for being a bit too racey. Scandalous! Ha. Catchy pop tracks HOW DO YOU SLEEP and MY BABY keep you singing the chorus long after the song has ended. This is exactly what pop songs should be doing. Kudos. The song RUNNIN’ is reminiscent of fellow chart topper, Chris Brown (also similar to Brown’s Run It title). Rounding out the album are a few ballads, TOLD YOU SO and NOT YOUR ENEMY, the latter being more sappy and somewhat enjoyable.

I would have to give this album, uh… a 7 out of 10. I think thats fair because I do enjoy most of it. :) SHHHHH.
