Anything and everything…

Top Sad Movies (that I have seen)…

This post is going to make me sound like the biggest wuss, but oh well, shove it!

So, every once and awhile I just want to accompany a bad day (or a miserable one or whatever) with a sad movie to just bring me down even further. It is my “company” in “Misery loves company”.

Awhile back, I made a list of movies that I found incredibly (or mildly) sad. Below is my list (missing many I am sure) in no particular order.

  1. Life as a House
  2. Stepmom
  3. Million Dollar Baby
  4. Beaches
  5. Steel Magnolias
  6. Walk to Remember
  7. Passion of the Christ
  8. The Pianist
  9. Finding Neverland
  10. Pay it Forward
  11. Life of David Gale
  12. The Color Purple
  13. Higher Learning
  14. Cold Mountain
  15. Angels in America
  16. Big Fish
  17. Mask
  18. Philadelphia
  19. I Am Sam
  20. Ladder 49
  21. 21 Grams

  23. Radio
  24. Crash
  25. Meet Joe Black

  1. The Green Mile
My Best Friend’s Wedding (I know it’s not a sad movie, but it makes me cry every time!)
Lion King, Bambi, Dumbo (come to think of it, most Disney movies make me cry)
I’ll have to come back b/c I’m sure I’ve got more!

  2. Okay, maybe a totally predictable answer: “E.T.”. But before you say anything — it gained a whole new dimension of meaning for me last year, when I couldn’t handle going to work the day after Virginia Tech (and I work in a University, albeit one on the other side of the country), and I needed to be alone and have a good cry. Good ol’ E.T. and Elliott didn’t let me down.

  3. I try to avoid sad movies, but I’d have to say the last really sad movie that I saw was Becoming Jane. It was based on Jane Austen’s life and I was bawling by the end. I don’t think it was supposed to be sad, but it struck a chord for me.

This post would be great for the Movie Madness Carnival that I am hosting at my blog. Click the link for more details and leave me a comment to let me know if you will be participating:

  7. The first, and one of the only movies to make me cry was Terms of Endearment. In my opinion the saddest scene in any movie is when Debra Winger says goodbye to her sons. I cry just thinking about it!

  11. Sad movies are cathartic, I just looove sad movies. I have seen so many, (I go to the movies to watch sad movies or war movies. Million Dollar Babe, the Pianist are great. So are the Champ, Kramer Vs. Kramer, well, there are thousands I could name here. THe only sad movies I don´t watch are those involving animals, such as Gorillas in the Mist. I have not seen it and will never see because those type of have the opposite effect on me, they make me depressed.

  22. Try watching “Hearty Paws”. I don’t think you can find it in the US because it is a Korean film. I did find it on youtube though. It is in Korean but has English subtitles. This movie has to be the saddest I have seen. Give it a try… it’s also really good!
