Top 12 – American Idol – It begins…

March 12, 2008 Leave a comment

So the real competition begins and really, with one of my least favorite themes. Oh well…

My favorite of the night was Brooke White. For sure. My reviews of each…below.

Syesha Mercado – “Got to Get You Into My Life” – Nothing special for me. I still think she has a good voice and a cute personality; I hope she connects with America. I think she will stay around.

Chikezie Eze – “She’s a Woman” – For the first time, I think I enjoyed Cheez-its. WOW. The beginning kind of reminded me of the opening scene of the movie The Jerk with Steve Martin. Ha. Although this was good, he could be a shock elimination. Not sure how much of America likes him.

Ramiele Malubay-“In My Life” – This girl has a good voice. Where has it been for the last few weeks? Like I said, I don’t think she is marketable. If she goes, its neither here nor there. She won’t win.

Jason Castro -“If I Fell” – Coffee Shop – esque (weird fact: As I was writing this portion, Coffee Shop by Landon Pigg came on my player). Agreed with Simon. This kid is good and he should (and deserves to) to far in the competition. Like I said before, Brushfire Records will sign him as soon as the season is done. Maybe a few duets with Jack Johnson and Matt Costa.

Carly Smithson -“Come Together” – She rocked it out. I still don’t think she is amazing. Let’s hope she doesn’t flop twice if she gets signed again.

David Cook -“Eleanor Rigby” – Dark horse, indeed. Get rid of the stupid hair David Cook. He’s good. Won’t win, but he is good. He can hope to endure the same fate as Chris Daughtry. Start collecting your bandmates David for your group Cook.

Brooke White -“Let it Be” – This was my favorite performance of the night. I love the piano. She didn’t try to ruin the song by changing the genre or speeding it up. She “let it be” raw and emotional. Kudos.

David Hernandez – “I Saw Her Standing There” – The scandal and this performance may give David Hernandez the boot tonight. What is this, a high school talent show? Let’s not oversing every word, k? Oh well, David you have a good voice and a good outlook. If you are back next week, keep to your promises.

Amanda Overmyer -“You Can’t Do That” – I am still not sure why she is here, but this was alright. She probably wont go home yet. Its amazing how her face does not match her body. Not sure if anyone else notices that.

Michael Johns -“Across the Universe” – Australian. They have Australian Idol, just so you know Michael. He’s alright. He won’t be going home yet. I kinda like the song though, especially from I am Sam.

Kristy Lee Cook -“Eight Days a Week” – Vomit. Bad notes. Good try though. I wonder if Carrie Underwood could pull this off. At least she didn’t have a mustache this week. She should go home.

David Archuleta -“We Can Work it Out” – I will allow him to have his off weeks. He didn’t seem to have any confidence this week in the song and that was to his detriment. It’s okay though; he can shake it off and come back next week with a dreary, slow song and make America love him again. I don’t think he is in danger of leaving, yet.

Top 8 Boys – American Idol – My Thoughts

March 5, 2008 Leave a comment

I must say, I was not looking forward to 80s theme night. I was happily surprised that most of the guys picked songs that weren’t so SLAP IN THE FACE 80s. Tonight proved to me that the men this season have a bit more talent than the women.

Luke Menard – “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”  – He must go. Give him the boot America. I’m done. Who does a Wham song?

David Archuleta – “Another Day in Paradise” I like this kid, but for the first time this season I noticed his heavy breathing when he talks and the annoying licking of his lips when he is singing. He’s still my pick. I think many families will vote for him cause he poses no threat and is, essentially, a safe choice. Probably why he won Star Search previously. Not to mention, he’s got a great voice.

Please note the breathing and lip licking. STOP!

Danny Noriega – “Tainted Love” – This kid needs to pack his bags and leave as well. Maybe he can grab his purse too. Not a fan of his theatrics; his voice is alright. Unfortunately, I think he is this year’s Sanjaya.

David Hernandez -“It’s All Coming Back to Me” – Good voice. I think the scandal (who cares) will hurt him this week. His performance was good, but I don’t care for men covering a song done by a woman. He may have to go home with Luke this time.

Michael Johns – “Don’t You Forget About Me” – He is good, but….Australian. Shouldn’t be on American Idol, right? He will stick around for awhile. Seems a bit cocky, but that never hurt anyone.

David Cook – “Hello” – Hi. Decent. Okay, actually good. My only problem with him is that I don’t like to look at him. I think its just the haircut, what is that?

Jason Castro – “Hallelujah” – Favorite performance of the night. This kid got hardly any air time (or none) during auditions, so I didn’t know what to expect.  What a great song. My favorite part of the performance was when he butchered one of the final notes and you saw the disgust in his face. Priceless.

Chikezie – “All the (Wo)Man That I Need” – Bye? Please. I am done with Cheez-its. Don’t play this off like you weren’t doing the Whitney version.

My hopes are for Luke, Danny and Chikezie to head home. Please?

Top 20- American Idol – Hmmm

I’m definitely ready for the Top 12. I always feel like the Top 24 drags on and on.It will get a little harder for the next week and then we will have the top 12. I think that the right people are still in it.Time to get rid of the nurse. and luke. and cheez its. and kristy lee cook. That’s what I think.

Top 24 – Four Eliminated

February 22, 2008 Leave a comment

Well, I am traveling, but I found some time to post about last nights eliminations.

In some cases, I am not surprised. I knew that Amy was going to get the boot and I kind of figured that the plus-sized Ashanti (Joanne) would also join her.

The ones I want to go are favorites and will probably be around awhile. On a good note, Amanda Overmeyer looked better with her longer hair extensions. Good move! Keep it.

On the boys side, I was disappointed. I kind of figured America didn’t care about Garrett and the insult by Simon probably didn’t help, but there were others who should have gone instead based on Tuesday’s performances. I was disappointed by the early leave of Colton. I think he was talented and would have been able to get rid of the funny faces and over-acting.

In my opinion, I think Cheez-its and Luke (Orlando Bloom) should have been sent home.

Not much we can do. Except vote. 🙂

Top 24 – Top 12 Girls – My Thoughts

Once again, 60’s theme? BLAH!

Alaina Whitaker – Today Than Yesterday

She wasn’t too bad. I really didn’t remember too much about her performance, but I do remember that she wants new shoes for her birthday.

Alexandrea “Alex” Lushington – Spinning Wheel

I think this little TomBoy is pretty good. Stupid song choice, but I think she deserves another round.

Amanda L. Overmeyer – Please Don’t Go

Why do people like this girl? She screams the whole time. I also think she will sound the same in every song. Who knows? Maybe I am wrong.

Amy Davis – Where the Boys Are

Oh god, Hope they send her where the boys are….off-stage, back in her home town. So pretty, not so pretty sounding.

Asiah Epperson – Piece of My Heart

She is still my pick for the girls. She is so pretty, especially with her straight hair. She has the energy and she can, in the words of Randy, “blow.” I also think she reminds me a little bit of Monica (the singer, not Lewinsky).

Brooke White – So Happy Together

Mia Farrow? Is that you? Brooke has the talent and she’s playing the Melinda Doolittle “nice” card. She should go far.

Carly Smithson – The Shadow of Your Smile

Frankly, Shirley….I think she is a bit overrated. Considering she was signed years ago, put out a huge flop, not sure what is so great. Her cd with MCA records sold 368 copies. They forked out $2.2 million on her.

Joanne Borgella – Say a Little Prayer for Me

I think she looks like Ashanti. Thats all I have to say. The voice sounded super “eh” last night. She might go.

Kady Malloy – Groovy Kind of Love

I think she sounded great. I get that the judges said she was boring, cause I think I had a slight case of narcolepsy. Strong voice.

Kristy Lee Cook – Rescue Me

So pretty. Decent Voice. Used to be signed on a country label. Big shock. She should stay.

Ramiele Malubay – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me

Judges love her. I think she sounds good. I don’t feel blown away though. Her main competition is Asia’h or Syesha in my eyes.

Syesha Mercado – Tobacco Road

I love this girl. She won me over in Hollywood when she had no voice and then belted “Chain of Fools”. I hate the song she did. Who wants to hear “Tobacco Road”? Not me. She should stay though.

American Idol – Top 12 Boys – My thoughts

60s theme? Blah.

Chikeze Eze – I Love You More Today Than Yesterday

I only liked this kid in his first Audition. I think he sounded bad last night. He has a cool name, that’s all for me.

Colton Berry – Suspicious Minds

Since I like Ellen, I think this kid is pretty good. Maybe a little better choice of clothes, but he did pick my favorite Elvis song and I believe did a good job. Some funny faces, but that is expected with a musical theater background.

Danny Noriega – Jailhouse Rock

Gross. I’m ready for this kid to go home. He has a decent voice (other than this song) but he just annoys me to no end.

David Archuletta – Shop Around

I think this kid is an Internet and fan favorite. He also has the talent and personality to back it up. I hope he gets far in this competition. My only negative comment is that he took a song written for a female and switched the genders. Eh. ** I have been corrected. Apparently, this was first done by Smokey Robinson. Oops.**

David Cook – So Happy Together

Nothing special for me. He’s alright. Now if he didn’t have such a gross haircut, I might be able to watch him sing.

David Hernandez – In the Midnight Hour

David H. has a great voice. I understand there is nothing special about him, but I think he would fit right in on the pop/r&b charts. Right in.

Garret Haley – Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

I hate to say it, but Simon was kind of right. I think he just needs a haircut. Maybe a tan. I didn’t actually hear much of his song cause the rest was distracting.

Jason Castro – Day Dream

This kid is good, despite the funny faces he makes. I think he has a good chance.

Jason Yeager – Moon River

Why would you pick this song? Seriously. He might get some votes based on the video clip of his audition and shots of him and his son.

Luke Menard – Everybody’s Talking At Me

Too cocky and just not that good. Sorry.

Michael Johns – Light My Fire

Unfortunately, over-rated. Can an Australian win American Idol?

Robbie Carrico – One

So, Robbie used to date Britney Spears. Nice. Well, at least one of us did. You think he feels any guilt about the way her life turned out?Robbie Carrico
